Identification of indicators and evaluation of environmental performance for national park management : a case study of Erawan national park in Kanchanburi proviince.
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to identify environmental indicators and to
evaluate environmental performance of Erawan National park management. The
Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE) was used to identify the indicators,
which generate from environmental aspect identification, management policy and
operation plan of Erawan National park. The environmental standards were used to
outline the indicators identification. The issues of the environmental indicators were
management, operation and the studies of environmental condition of water, waste and
noise. Then, the evaluation of environmental performance was done through policy,
management, operation system and activities in Erawan National park
The studies found that 3 main issues of environmental indicators were used in
this study, they were management performance indicators, operation performance
indicators, and environmental condition indicators. The indicators of management
performance comprised of policy and budget, mitigation measures and regulations of
environmental aspects control, training, and the operation of officer performance
monitoring. The indicators of operation performance were waste disposal, the control
of water quality, and noise control. Finally, indicators of environmental condition
which composed of waste quantity, water quality both in Erawan waterfall and before
drain to natural waterway, and sound level in the activities area. The Environmental
Performance Evaluation for Erawan National park showed that the overview of
environmental performance was in moderate level, which the assessment score was
2.31. The assessment score of management performance, operation performance and
environmental condition were 2.29, 2.17, and 2.56 respectively.
