The design and development of a data warehouse : case study for gross domestic product
Abstract:
The objective of this research was to design and develop a data warehouse for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from which the user can extract information via Internet. The information in the data warehouse support users who wish to extract information quickly and easily in order to answer questions. All reports can be viewed by users from wherever they can establish an Internet connection.
The development of the data warehouse adopted a bottom-up approach that build individual warehouse, and combine them to form an overall data warehouse. The data warehouse was developed using the Data Transformation Service (DTS) of SQL Server 2000 to transfer data into the data warehouse system. In this research, the information in the data warehouse was accessed through the website of the EMIS II project which broadcasts economic data of 7 government offices (website of EMIS II system has address http://emis.fpo.go.th).
The data warehouse system was tested and evaluated by users. The sample user groups, which evaluated the functioning of the application, comprised 15 users divided into 2 groups, a staff group of 5 users and user group of 10 users. The users rated the interface at the very good level, and user acceptance was good.
