Abstract:
This qualitative research was aimed to study the changing in hospital
organizational culture, the changing process in the hospital accreditation development
and factors affecting success in this process. Methods employed in this study were
indepth interviews, focus groups and documentary review. The results are as follows.
The new organizational cultures emerging from the hospital accreditation
development processes were patients’ focus, cross functional teams, systematic
problem solving and listening to the bottom-up. The changing process was composed
of 3 phrases: beginning phrase of development process including awareness,
understanding and learning stage; accomplishment phrase including customer focus,
transferring the policy to the operation team, improvement of the work system and
adopting ISO for documentation; and the last was the success and progressive
development phrase. Factors affecting positive changes of the organizational cultures
were a supreme leader, structural reengineering, continuous success, external support
and original organizational cultures such as teamwork. The military system brought up
both positive and negative results for changing of organizational culture; military law
and seniority system were positive causes. The chain of command caused negative
changing of organizational cultures.
