Development of health promoting school model in Tak province
Abstract:
This research aimed to develop a health promoting school model and to study the
effectiveness of the model developed in developing a school to be a health promoting school
including the changes of self-power, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and participative behaviors
among school personnel and stakeholders who are involved in implementing health promoting
school, and the effect of the program on students’ health status as regards to ears, eyes, teeth,
nutrition status, and iodine deficiency status. The 1E 3C Health Promoting School Model was
developments : development of experiential learning; development of health promoting school
components; capacity building of school personnel and stakeholders; and development of
community participation. The 1E 3C Model has been implemented in the experimental school
and the following activities have been implemented : building capacity of school personnel
and stakeholders, organizing workshop for providing knowledge and practicing skills
regarding problem analysis, program planning, and planning activities to develop a school in
accordance with the components of health promoting school. Besides, the school personnel
and stakeholders also had an opportunity to practice skills, to plan the program, to organize
the activities, and to evaluate health promoting school individually.
After the experimentation, the data were analyzed and the difference between before
and after the experimentation was compared by using the following statistics : frequency,
percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Paired Samples t-test. It was found that the
experimental school, that the 1E 3C Model has been used with, could be developed to be a
health promoting school, the school personnel and stakeholders had self-development and
participated in the development activities, and students’ health status has been improved
significantly.
