Readiness and participation in nursing quality assurance of registered nurses in a Hospital under Department of Medical Service, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration
Abstract:
This research aimed to study the factors related to the readiness of registered nurses for nursing quality assurance in Charoenkrungpracharuk Hospital under Department of Medical Service, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The sample consisted of 232 nurses working in Charoenkrungpracharuk Hospital. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics used were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The analytical statistics comprised ttest, oneway analysis of variance, Pearsons correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results of the study showed that most of the registered nurses had the overall readiness and readiness in term of ability and willingness to conduct quality assurance at fairly good levels (50.5%, 43.5% and 45.5% respectively). Participation of the registered nurses for quality assurance in nursing practice and quality development activities were mostly at a fairly good level (48%). There were significant relationships between organization support factors and readiness of the registered nurses in participating in the nursing quality assurance (p< 0.05). This study showed that technical support factors, nurse administrators, working in outpatient department and pediatric ward , lack of information about quality assurance, and resources factors altogether could explain 24.1% of variance in readiness of the registered nurses for participating in the nursing quality assurance. As a result, There were significant relationships between the readiness of the registered nurses for participation in nursing quality assurance with nursing quality assurance practice of the registered nurses in nursing practice and quality development activities (r = .780, p = < 0.001)
The results of this study suggest that nursing personnel should be trained in nursing quality assurance in nursing practice and quality development activities. Nurse administrators should establish a counselor team, provide necessary resources, reward excellent quality achievement and should continuously follow up the results of nursing quality assurance activities.
