Roles and readiness of the council members of subdistrict administrative organization on solid waste management in Samut Prakan province
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to study roles and readiness of the council
members of Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) responsible for solid
waste management in Samut Prakan Province on solid waste management, and to
study the association between roles, on the one hand and readiness, on the other with
the following independent variables: knowledge and understanding, awareness of
solid waste management and its problems, age, educational level, work duration,
access to information, and experience in solid waste management training. This survey
research used the questionnaire for data collection. Simple random sampling of 246
members were to draw the sample from the total population of 638 SAO members.
For data analysis, this study used chi-square.
Research results revealed that the bigger groups of SAO members were highly
active in both their roles and readiness. The association of roles and readiness were
with their education level, access to information, experience in solid waste
management trainings were statistically significant. Their knowledge and
understanding, and awareness of solid waste management as well as their age, and
work duration, had no impact on their roles and readiness.
From these research results, it is recommended that there should be more
motivation training on social concerns and responsibility on their functions as member
of SAO. The information on practical ways of community approach and problem
solving related to community solid waste management should also be consider
