Thai traditional music learning and music teaching activities organized by local music educators in elementary schools in Ratchaburi province, Thailand
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were 1) to study the conditions of teaching Thai
traditional music affecting local educators, in schools under the Office of Provincial
Elementary Education, Ratchaburi province 2) to study the administration of the
teaching process in accordance with article 24 of the National Education Act B.E.
2542. The initial Study targetted teachers responsible for the Thai tradition music
teaching in 34 schools with questionnaire the samples for interview included teachers
responsible for the program, local educators, administrators, students and parents from
a total of 5 schools. The instruments utilized in the research were a survey research
questionnaire, performance observation form and interview form and percentages
calculate from the results.
1) Teachers responsible for the program are loaded with routine burdens and do
not possess any musical skill or knowledge but on the contrary the local educators are
experienced and skillful in all types of Thai traditional musical instruments. Schools
are also well equipped with musical instruments. The study further interprets that only
23 schools among the total 34 schools that have been approved for a budget to pay the
local educators have operated the program. Among them only 5 schools have achieved
a success
2) Regarding the administration of the program, it is found that it has been fully
operated in harmony to the article 24 of the National Education Act B.E. 2542.
