Information support system for electronic journal management of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University
Abstract:
The objectives of this research are as follows: 1) to identify an academic
electronic journal format and structure in the field of environment and natural
resources, 2) to establish and apply an academic electronic journal system under the
responsibility of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol
University. The methods of Structural Analysis and Design (SAD) and System
Development Life Cycle (SDLC) were utilized for system establishment. The system
was evaluated by an expert on system analysis. In addition, an interview using a
questionnaire was provided to evaluate the suitability of the system and the user
interface.
The establishment of an academic electronic journal system was approved
through the following process; 1) problem recognition, 2) feasibility study, 3) system
analysis using context diagram, data flow diagram, process specification and data
dictionary, 4) system design, 5) system development, 6) system testing and
evaluation, 7) system revision, and 8) system implementation. The system was created
under the web server and database server with Microsoft Windows 2000 operating
system which appropriated existing hardware and software from the Faculty of
Environment and Resource Studies. The system evaluation was given to the
concerned staff and students of the faculty. It was found that most of them positively
appreciated the Information Support System for the Electronic Journal in terms of
data input, data management, system security, topics and issues valuation, and
working support. However, the user interface is still needs to be modified for better
use in the future
