Professional performance among nurses at accredited hospitals in the Bangkok Metropolis
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to determine the level of professional
performance among nurses, to examine factors affecting their performance, and to
formulate a model for their performance at accredited hospitals in Bangkok
metropolis. A set of questionnaire was filled out by a random sample of 518 cases,
excluded missing 32 cases. The professional performance among nurses at accredited
hospitals in Bangkok metropolis included ten aspects of professional performance.
The data was analyzed by multiple regression and confirmatory factor analysis.
About 70% of the nurses were found to have a professional performance score
in the moderate level. The mean scores for adherence to the nurses’ code, quality of
care, and self-development aspect fell within the high and the fairly high level. The
mean score on the resource utilization and management aspect was in the moderate
level. Mean scores falling in the rather low level were those of community service,
theory, research, and professional organization participation aspect; while the
dissemination aspect mean score was the lowest.
Factors used for predicting professional performance at predictive power 39%
were: goal- setting, self-efficacy, social support, and professional socialization ( this
last factor being not statistically significant).
The professional performance among nurses at accredited hospitals in Bangkok
metropolis included ten components comprising 45 items.
. In conclusion, based on this research, the theory, research, and their dissemination
aspect, along with community service and participation in professional organizations
aspect should be promoted by the hospital accreditation policy and nursing
professional organization. The cooperation among nurses and the various hospital
professionals should be encouraged
