Behavioral study on triple anti-retroviral drug use among HIV/AIDS patients in hospital : the co-payment system
Abstract:
The objective of this study was to understand the behavior of HIV/AIDS
patients and their use of Triple use type Anti-retroviral drugs under the co-payment
system. This study could be useful for developing a continuous package of health
services for HIV/AIDS patients.
Questionnaires and interviews were given to five HIV/AIDS patients, three
medical staff, and to five close relatives. These dealt with the effects of the triple type
anti-retroviral drugs, the illness and treatment, the co-payment system and other
factors
affecting the use of these drugs.
It was found that the five cases were getting drugs continually and regularly.
There were no severe side effects or opportunistic infections. They were very healthy.
They could pay some money for their project co-payment. They could cope with
problems in the family about their HIV infection. Their family provided for them,
taking care and giving them financial support for self health care. The co-payment
system pleased HIV/AIDS patients, and close relatives, and it could maintain quality
of life.
