Sexual behavior among M.S. 3 students in Ubonratchathani province
Abstract:
A cross-sectional study of coital behavior and related factors among four hundred
and seventy three students of M.S. three in co-ed schools in Ubonratchathani
Province was conducted between 18th February and 3rd March, 2003 by using
self-administrated questionnaire. Statistical analyses used were descriptive statistics,
Chi-square test, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation and Stepwise Multiple
Regression.
Results revealed that, an average proportion of respondents who had coital
experience was 4.14 %-8.53 %. The youngest age of first coitus experience was 13
years old, with an average age 14.5 years old. Mostly the first partner was their
boyfriend, girlfriend or close friend (80.0%). The average frequency of coitus during
the previous one year was 2.9 times per year. The factors that were significantly
related to frequency of coitus α 0.05, were exposure to sexually arousing media,
substance abuse, viewing of parents or family member coitus, viewing of close friend
coitus and touching of each other between males and females. The influencing factors
that affected frequency of coitus were residence, school area and substance abuse
which had the ability of accurately predicting 59.9 percent of the coital rate
In addition, analyses revealed that gender, familial problem solving, opinion
toward sex during school age, residence area, school area, exposure to sexually
arousing media, substance abuse, viewing of parents or family member coitus, viewing
of close friend coitus, touching of each other between males and females and
visits to entertainment establishments had statistically significant influence on any
experience of coital behavior α 0.05. The influencing factors that affected coital
behavior were viewing of close friend coitus, touching between males and females,
previous visits to entertainment establishments, opinion toward sex during school age
and person to consult about sex which had the ability of accurately predicting 37.5
percent of the coital behavior.
