Study of employment trends and required qualifications of graduates in the private sector in Bangkok
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study the relationship between the economic fluctuation and condition of employment of graduates in the private sector, to find out employment trends of graduates in private sector and to investigate the required qualifications of graduates in the private sector. The findings of the study were that employment trends of graduates in each subject field in the private sector correlated with five economic conditions, which are, the growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP), services and other growth rates, private debts, exchange rate (baht per US dollar) and amount of commercial bank loans. The subject fields in which the graduates were employed the most were engineering, sciences and fine arts, respectively. The subject-field in which the graduates were least involved in the private sector was the medical field. This was because the majority of the graduates worked for the public sector. With reference to the demand of graduates in the private sector, it was found that the vacancies were offered more to the graduates in social sciences about two times compared to science graduates, but when considering the proportion of employment, it was found that more graduates in science were employed than those with degrees in social sciences. The qualifications of graduates in the private sector which were most required by the employers in ads were work experience, language English ability and computer literacy, respectively. On account of the required personality qualifications, it was found that the employers preferred employees who possessed responsibility, intelligence, tolerance at work, a good working relationship and effective communication abilities, morality and honesty respectively
