Abstract:
This research was to create and to experiment with an environmental education
supplementary book called “Our River” for the 4th grade elementary students. It was also to study
the worthiness of the book in relation to learning achievement in areas of knowledge and the
satisfaction gained by students from reading supplementary books, the nature of the narrative
writing, the prose writing accompanied by cartoons to communicate knowledge, and the book’s
viable attractiveness to children. The experiment with the 4th grade elementary students at Petch
Thanom Primary School was done to study the learning achievements in the area of
comprehension of the text. Further, this book had also passed the quality assessment of
experts. It was found as follows :
1. The scores of the learning achievement in the area of comprehension of the text of
the experimental group after reading the book was better than the scores before reading it at a
statistical significance level of 0.05.
2. The scores of the learning achievement in area of comprehension of the text of the
experimental group and the control group after reading the book was different at a statistical
significance level of 0.05. It showed that the experimental group who had read the supplementary
book had better knowledge of the text than the group who did not read it had no comprehension
of the text.
3. The experts had graded the book at the very good and good levels.
4. Satisfaction assessed among students resulted in very good and good levels.
