Abstract:
This research was conducted to follow up on the Project of Supporting and
Development of Outstanding Youth Athletes, Mahidol University with an emphasis
on problems and obstacles in the operation of the project. Research samplings
numbered 66 people. They included the committees and sub-committees who have
inspected athletes’ specific skills and abilities, and students and graduates of the
project. This thesis is a description of the research, employing interviews and
questionnaires to collect data. The data gathered were then analyzed by means of
percentage, average ( Χ ) and standard deviation (S.D.).
Results of the study reveal that the Project of Supporting and Development of
Outstanding Youth Athletes, Mahidol University has achieved its objective in the
operation of the project. Moreover, the project should base its athlete recruiting
process on a quota system. It was also found that, while in the project, studying
problems have been the most serious obstacle for students as their test results showed
weak fundamental knowledge of course material.
To ensure that the project is successful, the researcher recommends that the
following measures be carried out: (1) all personnel involved in the project should be
screened; (2) educational opportunities and development should also be constantly
and seriously provided for outstanding athletes; and (3) information regarding
education of the students in the project should be gathered continuously to counter
potential study problems.
