An implementation of supply chain management using web services : a case study in textile industry
Abstract:
From Thailands commitments under the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2005, the import and export quota restrictions of textile and clothing products will be eliminated. The competition on free market will force all Thailands textile and clothing manufacturers to improve their competitiveness. The benchmarking survey depicts Thailands On Time Performance index (OTP) as a problem and that it lags behind Asian leaders such as Singapore and Indonesia. Supply Chain Management, as a new industrial-wide management strategy, will become a solution to improve competitiveness and reduce lead time. Hence, Information linkage is needed in this industry. This paper presents an implementation of a web service, a collection of XML-based standards that provide a means for passing information between applications using XML documents, in linking information from fabric to clothing companies. In this paper, the problem in supply chain perspective is analysed. An appropriate tool is selected for creating the information linkage. Then a prototype of web service is developed, particularly on order processing"
