Relationships between psychological self-care, sense of coherence, social support and mental health of teachers in sensitive area schools under the Office of Kanchanaburi Provincial Primary Education
Abstract:
This descriptive research was intended to explore teachers’ mental health and
related factors. Samples were 270 teachers who had been working in the sensitive
area schools under the Office of Kanchanaburi Provincial Primary Education. Data
collection was done from 14th October B.E. 2545 to 14th January B.E. 2546 by using
a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to derive frequency, percentage,
arithmetic mean and standard deviation. Statistical analysis was used to derive
Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Stepwise multiple
regression.
The findings of the study showed that 67 percent of teachers in the sensitive
area schools were in normal mental health. Factors relating to their mental health
with statistical significance (p = 0.01) were psychological self-care, sense of
coherence, and social support. Predicting factors for mental health of the teachers in
the sensitive area schools for 44.90 percent were sense of coherence, psychological
self-care, and social support.
Suggestions from this research are that teachers’ mental health should be
promoted and improved. Comprehensive training or seminars should be organized to
enhance teachers’ sense of coherence, psychological self-care, social support skills
including the development and improvement of teachers’ welfare.
