Development of analytical program and patient registration database in radioimmunoassay laboratory
Abstract:
The goal of this study is to test a new system for radioimmunoassay (RIA)
laboratory against the conventional system. In the conventional system, data is
recorded manually and analysed by Multi Calc 2000 software (MCalc). In the new
system, development application software (LIMS) is used to report laboratory
results both in the request form and in the patient data record book. A further goal is
to compare the data transmission capacity of LIMS with MCalc. 11,148 patient
blood samples were used for testing the software efficiency, and questionnaires
evaluating the satisfaction of the new system were distributed. Statistical analysis for
each evaluation has been presented.
In a comparison of LIMS and MCalc the percent difference of sample’s
means and standard deviation in hormone analysis were 4.9281 + 1.1524 % and
4.9939 + 1.4719 %, respectively. There was no significant difference between LIMS
and MCalc in the amount of data transmitted. LIMs was five times faster than the
conventional method at any number of samples. The LIMS method decreases the
time of operating. Almost all the staffs are very satisfied with the new system.
This study shows that data manipulation by appropriate application software
reduces work-load, time, and human error. In summary, this developing application
software is a new trend for modernized RIA service
