The effects of group work on low self-concept amputee workers at industrial rehabilitation centre : Pathumtani provice
Abstract:
This research is a study of the effects of group work on low self-concept
amputee workers. The hypotheses are: (1) the amputee workers have higher selfconcept
scores after participating in the group work (2) the amputee workers who have
participated in the group work have higher self-concept scores than those who have
not. The sampling group consists of male amputee workers, 16 years of age or more,
who have self-concept scores lower than X -2SD and were willing to participate in
the experiment. Eight individuals each were assigned to a study group and a control
group, using matching and simple random methods based on age and duration of
disability. The study group participated in group work for 5 consecutive weeks, 3
times a week, and met for 1.30 hours each session. The control group did not
participate in group work but had been rehabilitated at the industrial rehabilitation
centre such as nursing care, physiotherapy, tailoring, computer, and electronics
training. The research instruments are self-concept scale and a set of group work
programs. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and the Wilcoxon
Matched-Pair Signed Ranks Test.
The result were: (1) the amputee workers have higher self-concept after
participating in the group work, with a statistical significance of .01 (2) the amputee
workers who participated in the group work had higher self-concept than those who
did not, with a statistical significance of .01
