The roles of the local people in preserving the national forest reserve case study : Lho Chan Kra National Forest Reserve, amphur Tamod and amphur Kongrha, Phatthalung province, Thailand
Abstract:
The objective of this research is to study roles of the local people in preserving
the reserved forest and important factors concerning the local people’s roles in the
reserved forest preservation including problems and obstructions, suggestions and
people’s opinion on Lho Chankra’s reserved forest preservation in Amphur Tamod and
Amphur Kongrha, Phatthalung province. The study was conducted by employing
quatitative and qualitative methods.
The quantitative study was conducted by employing questionnaires to
interview 234 family representatives. The SPSS for Windows program was employed
to computerize evaluation analysis. For the independent variables and correlations, ttest
F-test and stepwise multiple regression were used. Percentile, mean and standard
deviation were used in sampling group general description. The independent variables
were sex, age, occupation, income, marital status, level of education, duration of
habitation, knowledge on reserved forest preservation, information perception about
reserved forest preservation, valuation and consciousness of reserved forest
preservation, the needs of reserved forest preservation participating activity
acknowledgement and the preservation area usage. For the followed variants are the
people’s role in Lho Chankra reserved forest preservation. For the qualitative study, indepth
interviews with local well-informed and well-qualified people were conducted.
The writer’s participating observations were also used for data to be employed in
analytic description.
The findings : The local people participated moderately in reserved forest
preservation. The important statistical means affecting the Lho Chankra reserved forest
preservation participation was at 0.05 level. These were the duration of habitation in
the reserved forest areas, and information perception. For the independent variables
stepwise multiple regression analysis was used. The findings showed that people with
more information perception play more roles in reserved forest preservation with an
important statistic of 0.001 level. Crop gardeners practice their roles in reserved forest
preservation more than those in other occupations with an important statistic mean
level of 0.05. People with a higher income practiced their local people’s roles in the
reserved forest preservation less. Those with a lower income usually practiced their
people’s roles in reserved forest preservation more, with an important statistic level of
0.05
