Information system development for preliminary rice diseases diagnosis
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to develop an information system for diagnosis of
rice diseases, as a tool for preliminary diagnosis. There are a total of 21 types of pathogen
or environment that causes rice diseases. Diseases caused by pathogens consist of 19
diseases, while the environment causes 2 diseases. In this study, data of diseases from
symptoms in each part of rice plant; leaf, leaf sheath, root, internode, panicle and carrier
were collected in order to create decision tables.
The users designed this system with direct input. Microsoft Access 97 database
program was used for database design to diagnose the diseases. Microsoft Visual Basic
version 6.0 was used to create the user interface and it is fully compatibility with the
Windows 98 operating system. The system was divided into two parts. The first section is
for the concerned authorities and included rice disease diagnosis and retrieval data. The
second is a system maintenance structure that can add, update and delete information,
which is for the experts in rice pathology.
The evaluated results found that the responders were satisfied after using this
system. However, some of the illustrated symptoms of rice diseases were not clear and
some could not be matched with each symptom. This system could be to provide
guidelines for developing and modifying other systems further.
