A web-based application prototype for multi-branch demand and inventory management : a case study in Konrakcafe
Abstract:
Currently, computer capacity is being continuously developed, with
manufacturing efficiency development. The computer is, therefore, utilized in the
manufacturing system improvement. The Inventory Management and Material
Requirement Planning (MRP) is a sub-system of the manufacturing system
management, which is now developed to be Computer Integrated Production Control
System. The computer integrates all functions concerned with production control in
achieving a homogenous system. Also, it extends the system in order to link to the
financial system and the marketing system to enhance the potential of the
manufacturing efficiency development.
In the case of multi-branch Coffee Shop Business, there is a need to improve the
inventory management especially when they desire to extend their branches to cover
Bangkok and other provinces. The problem occurs at the area of material management
especially when stock is sent from the head office to each branch. The first problem
that was addressed is the delay of raw material delivery. The second problem was the
information error.
To solve the problem, we developed our own information management system
using information technology on web. It was expected that applying the information
technology to put the inventory level data into the computer, together with applying
MRP in managing the raw material demand would develop the efficiency and speed of
demand and inventory control and management. Moreover, we used the web for
accessing and displaying the information. It was helpful in reporting material usage
and the total sale amount in each day. Also, this information could be processed for
the standard value in material transformation in order to compare the previous and
current information to audit for theft. Although this project only used “Konrakcafe”
case studies, it is expected that the prototype can be applied to similar SME multibranch
businesses.
