Abstract:
Analysis of Thai goods competitive potential in Japan markets will objective the study at 3 groups of commodity namely agricultural group, industrial group and agricultural industry group, of which they will be divided into 12 types for study by using the concept of the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA) and the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) The objectives of this research are:- 1. To gain the general Knowledge of Thai commodity exports to Japan markets situation during 1995-2004. 2. To analyze a competitive potential of major Thai goods in Japan markets by using the concept of the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA) and the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC)
The Analysis of this the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index (RCA) together with the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) in 1995, 1998 and 2000, found that Thai goods in Japan markets can be classified into 3 major groups, first group having the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA>1) and the result of DRC/SER value in 1995, 1998 and 2000, was less than every year in prior (DRC<1), classified as a group of commodity, of which Thailand has gained a competitive potential in Japan markets, such as rice, orchids, natural Para-rubber, frozen/chilled fresh shrimps, frozen/chilled quid, frozen/chilled fresh fish meat, frozen/chilled crustacean animals, frozen/chilled fresh chick, frozen/chilled duck, canned sea foods, animal feeds, fats and oil made from vegetables and animals, video equipment, audio equipment and accessories, radio receiver and television sets and accessories, refrigerators, ice boxes and components, computers, components and accessories, printed circuit boards, facsimile machines, tele-printers, telephone sets, components and accessories, semiconductors, diodes and transistors, furniture and parts, ferric products and steel products, aluminium products, vehicles and components. For the second group are the commodity having the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA>1) but without advantage the Domestic Resource Cost (DRC>1) such as cassava products, frozen/ chilled fresh vegetables, suger and suger wastes (molasses), canned fruits and processed fruits, rice products, wheat products and other finished foods, favour seasonings, beverages. For the last group, there is no Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA<1) and Domestic Resource Cost (DRC>1), such as meats and other parts of eatable animals, canned vegetables and processed vegetables, chewing gums and confectioneries without cocoa, meats and seasoning made from meats and finished garments made from woven materials.
