Literature preference of fourth grade students in the English program at Anubanohonburi primary school
Abstract:
This study was an attempt to determine the literature preferences of fourth grade students (boys and girls) in the English Program at Anubanchonburi primary school. The purpose of the study was to assist teachers in promoting reading by selecting literature that these children prefer to read, a fictitious-annotated-titles survey was used to determine reading preferences in six genres found in a primary-grade classroom which includes Contemporary Realistic Fiction, Historical Fiction, Fairy Tale/Myth, Fantasy, Science Fiction, and Information Books categories. The study was conducted with grade four students. As the survey research, the researcher asked all students to answer the questionnaires. Ninety six students participated in the survey-42 boys and 54 girls. Both boys and girls were found to prefer Science-Fiction more strongly than Folk Tales/Myth and have significant differences at .015. Boys displayed a stronger preference in Science in Science Fiction than the girls, while the girls displayed a stronger preference in Historical Fiction and Fairy Tale/Myth than the boys.
