Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study and to compare kinds and quantities of colored food served in elementary schools, including the use of standard and non-standard dyestuff in food served in schools with and without the provision of school lunch program under the Provincial Elementary Education Office of Chonburi.The sample of this study was thirty-six schools by simple random of the schools with and without the provision of school lunch program both within and outside the municipal and sanitary areas in the following districts : Muang, Banglamung, Ban-Bueng, Boothong, Parnthong, Panasnikom, Sattahib, Nongyai and Sriracha.The findings were as follows.1. In the elementary schools with the provision of school lunch program, colored food found with most dyestuff were softdrink and icecream : next on the list were food and seasoning sauces; and least of all were fruits. On the contrary, it was found out that kinds of colored food with most dyestuff served in the schools which do not provide the school lunch program were softdrink and icecream; toffees were the second, and fruits the least.2. The most quantity of colored food with non-standard dyestuff served in the schools with and without the provision of school lunch program was dried sweets. There was 4.17 percent of colored food with non-standard dyestuff served in the schools which provide the school lunch program in the municipal and sanitary areas. While in the schools which do not provide the school lunch program outside the municipal and sanitary areas, it was found out that non-standard dyestuff was used in 26.09 percent in fruits, 12.04 percent of dried sweets, and 1.28 percent in each kind of desserts.3. The use of standard and non-standard dyestuff in colored food served in elementary schools both within and outside the municipal and sanitary areas did not depend on whether the schools had the school lunch program or not.
