Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study in word ( Concrete noun ) recognition and comprehension of the children aged 5 - 6 on the Rural Kindergarten Program, the relationship between ability in word ( Concrete noun ) recognition and comprehension and to compare ability in word (Concrete noun ) recognition and comprehension between boys and girls and among children living in the big , the medium and the small municipal districts.The particpants in this research were the children aged 5 - 6 on Rural Kindergarten Program under the office of the National primary Education commission in Nakhon Ratchasima. 102 out of 1084 children were selected by multi - level sampling.The research materials for this study were 50 of 9 * 13 cm pictures. These pictures show the meaninge of words . (Conrete noun ) Two kinds of questions, "what is this?" and "what is it for?" were interviewed by researcher .The childrem who have the same charcteristics as the sampled group was composed of 10 children were tested in order to see whether the pictures were clear. The second try - out of the research materials was composed of 30 children . Scoring was done later. The reliability were used by Kuder - Richardson 20. It was found that the reliability in word recognition is 0.76 and word comprehension is 0.84.Finally all the data were analyzed by means of the percentage, the arithmetic means, the standard deviation, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation and analysis of Hypotheses were used the t- test and F- test.The findings were as Follows From the study of word recongnition and comprehension of Rural Kindergarten children, it was found that 1. words which children recognized most were bird , horse, pig , hen, fish, car , toothbrush , house , umberlla , and cat. Words which children recognized least were lamp , coconut , food container , chair , teacher , bed , cupboard ,basket , temple , and escalator.2. Words which children comprehended most were toothbrush , car , pencil , television , trousers , umbrella , glass , papaya , hen , and , spoon . Words which children comprehended least were lamp , temple, coconut , nose food container , flag , school , teacher , dog , and bird.3. The ability in word recognition and comprehension was statistically relating at the level of .05.4. There were no significant differences in abillty in word recognition and comprehension between boys and girls.5. The abillty in word recognition and comprehension of Rural Kindergarten children living in the big, the medium , and the small municipal districts showed no significant differences.
