Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of five heavy metal ions:Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Copper and Zinc, on the growth of four genera: Spirulina sp., Chlorella sp., Scenedesmus sp. and Closterium sp. slows down in Mercury, Cadmium, Copper and Zinc at the concentration level 1 ppm, but Lead has no result on the growth of this genus. The growth of Chlorella sp. slows down in Mercury, Cadmium and Copper at the concentration level 1 ppm. Lead has no efect on the growth, but Zine lowers the growth at 1 ppm level. The growth of Scenedesmus sp. slows down in Mercury, Cadmium, Copper and Zinc at 1 , 1 , 10 and 15 ppm. But Lead has no result. The growth of Closterium sp. slows down on Mercury, Cadmium and Copper at 1 , 10 and 15 ppm. The growth on Lead increases at 5 ppm and on Zinc at 5 and 15 ppm level. The three genera of green algae have the dufference in growth. Chlorella sp. has the best growth. The second and the third are Closterium sp. and Scenedesmus sp. respectively.
