Abstract:
The objective of thid research was to study as well as to compare the usage and problems regarding information seeking on the internet of 239 secondary school students (Grade9-12) of Navamintrachinutit Suankularbwittayalai Samutprakarn School ; as classified by gender and subject groups.The findings were as follows :1.The students usually used the internet at their homes of dormitories, paid 100-300 a month, using the internet for 1-2 hours at a time, frequent using of 3-6 days a week, and using at around 4.30 p.m. - 8.00 p.m. 2. The objective of their usage was to search information for their studies, especially subject content on computer. They usually searched entertainment websites. The services mostly used were World Wide Web, and search engine from www.google.com. The searched information was mostly in Thai language.3.The problems regarding internet searching they encountered most were insufficiency of computers and service time of the internet at the library and not enough computer room at school.4. Between male and female students, there were some significant differences as follows : location of internet using : frequency of using ; objectives on searching information for studying , entertainment, and communication; using search engines of www.yahoo.com, www.thaihalfile.com, and www.thaiwere.com; and also searched information language (Thai).5. Among their subject groups, there were significant differences and follows : location of internet using (all places); frequency of using ; the cost for using the internet; the period of time in searching; the researched contents on Science, Fine Art/music/dancing, and English language; the researching on advertising/government and private sector websites; using services of www.telnet, USENET; using search engines of www.yahoo.com, www.e-card.com, www.gamcaa.com, and www.thaihalfile.com; and also searched information language (Thai)
