Abstract:
Purposes of research
The purposes of research were to study and compare the needs and Securing of opportunities for sesf-development of facalty staffs in the United Colleges of Southern Isan.
Methodology
The methodology employed is a descriptive research. The samples surveyed were 600 lecturers in the United Colleges of Southern Isan group who taught in the academic year 1992. Of these 600 lecturers, it consisted of 180 lecturers from Nakornratchasima Teachers College, 140 from Burirum Teachers College, 120 from Surin Teachers College and 160 from Ubonratchathani Teachers College.
The tools uses for this research were a rating scale questionnaire consisting of 3 parts : part 1 concerning the respondents status, part 2 the needs and securing of opportunities for lecturers self-development, part 3 is in the suggestions. The reliability a this questionnaire equals to 0.95
A frequency descrimination and percentage were employed in the analysis of the samples status data concerning the needs and getting of opportunities for self-development of the lecturers were analysed by the use of mean (X). The value of standard diviation (SD) of each item was analysed separately. A T-test was employed to compare the mean of the needs and getting of opportunities for lecturers self development.
Summary of research findings
Results of the study and comparison of the mean of the needs and getting of opportunities for lecturers self development in the United Colleges of Southern Isan group can be summarized as follows :
1. The needs for lecturers self development which have a high level mean, arranges in high to low score order, are : studying texts, reading articles and researchworks related to their own field, going on a study tour, receiving training abroad, going on a 1-4 week study tour to higher education institutes in the country, participating in the conference on an area related to their own career, being granted a sabbatical leave to further their education in the field related to their career, having a special brush-up course by just sitting in the classes related to their field, going on a cultural tour, organizing councelling service using new teaching media, making merit and donating money or thing on due occasions, participating in religious and cultural activities, discussing informally about the development of teaching method, learning foreign languages. Working for the center or office of the faculty inside their institutes. The rest have a moderate mean.
2. Securing of opportunities for lecturers self development that has a low level mean, put in a low to high score order, is : going on a study and training tour aboard, exchanging lecturers among other institues, being granted a sabbitical leave. Volunteering on their free days for the work in different places like district offices or provincial mobile, exchanging lecturers among different departments of the same institutes, organizing meet the book and teaching aid sellers program, acting as ans adviser for local bodies, observing fellow lecturers teaching redesigning courses for some subjects, producing vidio for teaching purposes then have their fellow lecturers comment it, participating as a committee in other organizations outside their own field, having a spacial course about their own field or the related ones, taking among teaching staffs in the same department. For the rest the mean of getting the opportunities for self-department of the lecturers is at the low level tilting to a rather moderate and moderate level.
3. From the compairison of the mean of the needs and securing of opportunities for lecturers s self-development, in and overall picture, it is found that is a statistically significant different at .01 and .05 levels in almost every item.
