Chemical constituents and its biological activities from derris malaccensis
Abstract:
The air-dried leaves of D. malaccensis were extracted with hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol, respectively. The ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by the use of chromatographic techniques. Two new prenylated chalcones, 2',4'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-3'-prenylchalcone (c) and 2',4'-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-3'(2"-hydroxy-3"-methyl-3"-butenyl) chalcone (d), together with the known beta-sitosterol (b) and oblongifolic acid (a) were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by the use of 2D NMR spectroscopic methods. The structure of compound c was further confirmed by a combination of chemical transformations and X-ray crystallography. Compound c showed moderate to good activities against Staphylococus aureus, Erwinia stewartii, Bacillta cereus,Escherichia coli and Salmonella groups. Compounds c and d exhibited cytotoxic activity against human small cell lung cancer (NC1-H187) with IC50 9.1 and 9.9 micro g/ml, respectively.
