Abstract:
The objective of this research was to evaluate the performance of Irrigation Project in Phetchaburi Basin. The study was implemented using data of dry season 1998 from February to June and data of west season 1999 from July to November. In the study, various data were collected such as crop calendar, cropping pattern, delivery method, irrigation application method, water quantity, percolation in the field and loss in canal system, and effective rainfall. In addition, water allocation for all activities were evaluated using 5 indexes i.e. delivery performance ratio, conveyance efficiency, utility of water supply equity, and temporal reliability. Results indicated that all index values were within allowable limit such that conveyance efficiency and temporal reliability were very good ; delivery performance ratio and utility of water supply were good ; and quality was moderate. Irrigation efficiency was also evaluated, the values were 46.67 percent for dry season and 31.07 percent for wet season which were close to values form previous study. In conclusion, the performance evaluation showed that the Pethchaburi irrigation project was well implemented. Nevertheless, all indicators in the wet season may not be used as a representative since irrigation practice was not applied for the whole season due to flood at the end of season. In addition, the project may increase irrigation area by improvement of water management at lateral and on-farm level.
