Abstract:
The objective of this descriptive research is twofold, namely, 1) to study and analyze the student affairs administration, 2) to develop the administration strategies based on Royal Virtues. Instruments used were documentary analysis, student affairs administration checklist, and student affairs administration questionnaires. The sample composed of 133 papers related to student affairs administration, Royal Virtues, and strategic planning, 6 governmental and private universities/colleges and 570 students / administrators/ instructors/student personnel. Data were primarily analyzed using content analysis and descriptive statistics. Thereafter SWOT analysis was employed in developing model to ascertain appropriateness. Student administration strategies which were validated by the connoisseurship.
Findings revealed that royal virtues, comprising Dana (charity), Sila (high moral character), Pariccaga (self-sacrifice), Ajjava (honesty), Maddava (kindness, gentleness), Tapa (self-control), Akkodha (non-anger), Avihimsa (non-violence), Khanti (tolerance), and Avirodhana (conformity in law),were were partly used by the student affairs administrators. The resulting strategies composed of five policy-level strategies. A principle strategy was the adoption of the Royal Virtures in student affairs administration. The other four strategies were 1) the students development strategies; 2) the students activities strategies; 3) the students readiness in learning strategies; and 4) the promotion and conservation of arts and culture strategies.
A Royal Virtures are recommended to be integrated by administrators in student affairs strategies so as to guide their organizational policies in order to promote higher effectiveness student affairs administration. Additionally, administrators and student personnel should use Royal Virtures as stated in the planning for student affairs administration as guidelines for their practices, in achieving good governance and student benefits.
