Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine relationships of the narcissistic personality, trait anger, job stressors, and counterproductive work behaviors. Three hundred employees, 150 females and 150 males, in the metropolitan area completed a series of questionnaires: counterproductive work behavior measure (CWB), narcissistic personality inventory, trait anger scale, organizational/job constraint scale, and interpersonal conflict with supervisors and coworkers scales. Path analyses were performed to test hypotheses and empirical model.
Results are as follows:
1. The moderating role of narcissism in the conflict with supervisors-organizational CWB relationship (p < .05) and conflict with coworkers-interpersonal CWB relationship (p < .01) is found.
2. Trait anger mediates the relationships between narcissism and organizational CWB (p < .01), and between narcissism and interpersonal CWB (p < .01).
3. Organizational/job constraints predict organizational CWB (p < .01) and interpersonal CWB (p < .01).
4. Conflict with supervisors predicts organizational CWB (p < .01).
5. Conflict with coworkers predicts interpersonal CWB (p < .01).
