Abstract:
To study the effect of message presentation base on Protection Motivation Theory and social support on the exercise adherence behavior. Subjects were 120 first-year nurse students at Naval Nursing College, Police Nursing College, and Airforce Nursing College, 40 each. Subjects were assigned to 3 experimental conditions: receiving message and social support, receiving message only, and receiving neither message nor social support. Results show that: (1) After message presentation, perceptions of vulnerability, severity, respose efficacy, and self-efficacy of those who received message presentation are higher than before message presentation. (2) After message presentation, those who received message presentation and social support have higher intention to do weight-bearing exercise (p<.01). This effect is not found in those who received message presentation only. (3) Those who received message presentation and social support exercise more after the message presentation (p<.001). This effect is not found in those who received message presentation only. (4) Those who received message presentation and social support have higher intention to do weight-bearing exercise than those who received neither message presentation nor social support (p<.05). While there is no significant difference between those who received message presentation only and those who received neither message presentation nor social support. (5) Those who received message presentation and social support and those who received message presentation only perform exercise adherence behavior more than those who received neither message presentation nor social support (p<.001). But there is no significant difference between those who received message presentation and social supports and those who received message presentation only
