Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to study the effects of upside down drawing on characteristics of drawing expression of children age 10-11 years. The samples used in this research were randomized by using multi-stage random method which included 218 children age 10-11 years from Bangkok Metropolis. The research instruments were 1) The reproduced drawing picture of Picasso: "Stravinsky" with explanation forms, 2) Drawing expression characteristics assessment form, 3) Behavior observation form, and 4) A set of questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by using t- test dependent, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage. The research findings revealed that the characteristics of upside down drawing expression, significantly increased at .05 levels. As comparing the characteristics of drawing expression of line, proportion and detail, significantly increased at .05 levels as well. When the detail in drawing were analyzed, the results revealed the mostly founded in each aspects were 1) Drawing Line was technique-style, 2) Drawing proportion were arms and fingers, 3) Drawing detailed were dressed, knees and elbows. In observation of children's behavior on upside down drawing found that 1) Children's working process: more than half of children had ability to draw fluently and preferred to cover reproduced drawing with another piece of paper, 2) The relationship with others: some children had discussed, compared and made comment about how similarities or differences on their drawing, 3) Working time duration: most children had ability to control and finish their drawing within time. In children's opinion of upside down drawing: hand and fingers were the most difficult parts to draw, but legs and arms were the easiest parts to draw. The method of upside down drawing, children drew by moving from line to adjacent line and most children thought that upside down drawing was the most difficult to draw and had to pay more concentrate. Moreover, there was the other observation in that almost all of the children were using eraser while drawing because they did not satisfy with their drawing and they wanted to redraw in order to meet on their drawing expectation.
