Abstract:
This study provided an analysis of 2,585 citations of scholars in Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University cited in 5,028 journal articles, books and monographs, theses and dissertations and research papers both in Thai and English published during 1993-2003. The objective was to examine the structure of scholarly activities and analyzed the categorization by publication formats, age and subject of documents cited. The method of this citation analysis consisted of counting and ranking the number of items documents were cited in references, bibliographies and footnotes. Our findings suggested that the citation analysis has been widely used in the social sciences. The type of documents cited most frequently were books (68.67%) and the second most cited were journals (13.89%). All of these resources were published during 5-10 years. The most-cited scholars were Professor Dr. Chai-Anan Samudavanija, Professor Dr. Amara Phongsapich, Professor Dr. Suchit Bunbongkarn, Professor Dr. Kramol Tongdhamachart and Professor Dr. Supang Chantavanich respectively. The document most highly cited, 81 times, was Morell, David and Chai-Anan Samudavanija. 1981. Political conflict in Thailand: Reform, reaction, revolution. Cambridge: Oelgeschlager, Gunn and Hain. Apart from being cited in political science, these resources were also cited in the areas of economic, social and culture, history, law and labour and immigration.
