Abstract:
The purposes of this research are to develop and evaluate the efficiency of Computer
Assisted Instruction (CAI) and to study pre-post achievement by Computer Assisted Instruction
lesson on Corundum Heat Treatment. The samples in this research were 30 undergraduate
students in 2nd semester of 2008 from Bachelor of Science Program in Gems and Jewelry of Gems
College, Burapha University Chanthaburi IT Campus, selected by Cluster Sampling on Simple
Random Sampling. The instruments used in this research were Computer Assisted Instruction,
which had the standard criterion of 80/80 and Achievement Test. The data was analyzed by
percentage (%), median (mdn), quartile deviation (Q.D.) and was compared by paired sample
t-test.
The research could be concluded as follows : 1) Contents of the lesson were designed
as a CAI based on tutorial type, then assessing quality of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) by
experts who assessed the results of evaluation showed that, in terms of contents, it received good
marks, and in terms of technical media production it received even higher marks. 2) The
efficiency of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) on Corundum Heat Treatment was 83.67/82.42
which was higher than the standard criterion set (80/80) which coincided with the pre-assumption
of this research. 3) After learning from Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) on Corundum Heat
Treatment in all units of study, students had post-test score higher than the pre-test score were a
statistically significant difference at .01 level.
